This will be a great news for Karate practioners worldwide... the inclusion will mean so much to us in view of the history of Karate. It should be in the Olympic games years ago... It should be a successful bid this time....

A WKF delegation led by the WKF President Antonio Espinos, composed of the General Secretary George Yerolimpos, the Sports Director Tommy Morris and the members of the WKF Athletes Commission, Tessy Scholtes and Davide Benetello, presented the candidature of the WKF and Karate for the 2016 Olympic Games to the IOC Executive Board in Lausanne on the afternoon of Monday June 15th. The team arrived on Saturday in Lausanne and worked the whole weekend on the final details of the presentation. On Sunday, a rehearsal took place in the IOC Headquarters where all the technical details and other issues were finalised.
The presentation itself was well received by the IOC Executive Board; it covered all aspects of both the World Karate Federation and of the sport of Karate, such as; 180 countries in membership of the WKF, World Championships in Tokyo where 98 countries participated, the universality of karate where everyone including children from even the poorest and most isolated regions can practice, a sport which is drugs free and which has all the components that other combat sports lack, such as kicking, punching and striking, sweeping and throwing and where injury rates are extremely low. The presentation was so well put that there was only one question of a technical nature which was well answered by Tommy Morris.
The years of effort put in by Antonio Espinos and George Yerolimpos could be seen in the friendly and familiar way that many of the IOC members greeted them. Six other sports, golf, rugby, roller sports, softball, baseball and squash were also putting their cases for inclusion but based on the IOC requirements, karate has to be in a very strong position. The IOC Executive Board will meet again in Berlin on the 13th of August and will decide which two sports from the seven candidates will be proposed and which will then be submitted to the Copenhagen IOC Session for approval on the 9th of October 2009.

This is a good news..
We will be having our own original tatami direct ship from Japan donated by Tatami association.. Since everything already in place, we just need to confirm a few details on documentation and shipping cost..
I hope this will motivate and encourage my students to learn the Budo spirits in Karate..

EMZ Newsletter

It's been long since my last blog..
Well, time flies and busy with daily chores..
We agreed to publish twice in a year for East Malaysia Zone which cover Sabah and Sarawak for news and update in MASK activities.. First issue going to be out this June and the good news is the Newsletter will be circulate for FREE..
Grab yours when you have a chance on it...
Anyway, move on...
Teaching the Karate art won't be easy especially when you having all mix of age in one session.. You need to be creative when you have kids, teenagers and adults in your session. It would be easier to have separate them according to their age group as training method and approach would suit them well.. But this only happen if you have enough numbers... say at least 6 person for different age group.. I find it difficult to handle the situation since my class session consists of different age group.. Probably that the best i can do at the moment, soon i'm planning to separate the adults or giving them an extra session in a week for adult class.. will see..
For those who still on training.. keep on doing what Sensei instructed you diligently with focus, muscle control and correct way of breathing.. Numbers of students just simple perform task with take consideration on this three main thing.. breathing.. muscle control and focus when you perform kihon technigue.. Always remember to breath deep.. execute the technigue with flexing (pulling muscle as far as you can) and with focus (breath out with KIAI)... use your stomach muscle as to generate power and focus.. Since our body and understanding of body mechanism different from each other.. try to do it slowly.. understand your body and keep remember the three things just now when doing the technigue.. Your mind will remember how to control your muscle, breathing and focus when you do over and over repetitive execution of technique...
Remember Karate is Active type of YOGA... Just do it.. Your mind will take care the rest when it program execution in the mind block...
Happy Training
